I would liken my coffee ritual to an ancient tea ceremony, minus the guests. It begins with my thermos. The thermos allows me to sip without reheating. I’m so accustomed to having a rushed, frantic schedule that part of the ritual has been savoring each moment of lessened brain fog; to relish in having the processing capacity to interact with the present, should I need to attend to something tedious, promptly, like responding to e-mails.
Dry ingredients go first: scoops of collagen, monk fruit chocolate powder, and a Four Sigmatic instant mushroom coffee packet. Next, boiling water releases the aroma. I give it a stir to blend the ingredients together. Creamer and emulsified MCT oil are added last.
We have an understanding, coffee and I, as long as I get sustained energy throughout the day and the hope that my novel will get sorted out, I get one cup. As long as I’m not jittery and drink at least 16 oz of water prior, I can get one cup. As long as I drink before noon, I get one cup. More than that would be volunteering for increased anxiety.
This early bird just needs to be ready for the worm.
